Massapequa, nestled on the south shore of Long Island, New York was first settled in 1696.  The environs evolved from a Colonial farming and fishing community to serve as part of the watershed and breadbasket of New York City; it supported a sprinkling of Victorian resort hotels; served as a center of early aviation and eventually became a growing community of mostly one-family homes built in the three decades following the end of World War II.  Part of the Town of Oyster Bay in Nassau County, this suburban community, approximately 30 miles from Manhattan, has a median household income (2019 estimated) of $107,191 with 91% of the Town's population categorized as white (non-Hispanic).

While most residents are employed on Long Island, a significant number commute to work in New York City.  The Long Island Railroad, one of the largest suburban commuter railroads in the country, whisks community residents into New York City in less than an hour.  Massapequa is served by major roadways providing access to the commercial centers and recreational and cultural attractions of Long Island and New York.  In addition, there are two major commercial airports serving New York City and another serving Long Island.  All are within a thirty to forty minute drive from Massapequa.

The Massapequa School District is the largest district in Nassau County with a high school, a ninth grade center, a middle school and five elementary schools. Noted for it excellent academic standards, successful sports teams and outstanding staff and faculty, the district has more than 85% percent of graduating students attending college or post high school training.  In addition, Long Island boasts 12 colleges and universities including Nassau Community College (2 year) considered among the best community colleges in the nation.  Most of these institutions are within a half-hour drive from Massapequa. 

While there are a small number of apartments and condominium units in the area, the overwhelming majority of the residential units are owner-occupied, single-family detached homes. There are several local downtown retail areas, large shopping centers with national retail stores and even a regional shopping mall - all within the Massapequa community.  Retail prices for goods and services are generally competitive with other parts of the country and bargains do abound. Restaurants are plentiful for all tastes, palates and price levels. 

Within Massapequa there are two large nature preserves with hiking and bike trails, several lakes and a score of local parks with a swimming pool, an outdoor ice-rink, baseball, football, soccer and lacrosse fields, court games and even a bay front beach.  Jones Beach State Park with more than six miles of sandy ocean beach is a ten-minute drive away.   Within a twenty- minute drive there are numerous other state, county, and town parks that provide opportunities for virtually every conceivable sport or outdoor activity.
