Fueled by sunny skies and crisp Fall temperatures, more than 2,500 local Pequa residents flocked to the fifth annual “Grace-full” Harvest Fair held on Saturday, September 26 on the church grounds.
Homemade jams and jellies, fresh Long Island produce, a giant Flea Market, baked goods, comfort food, books and DVDs, jewelry, arts and crafts, a beautiful handmade quilt, flower creations, pumpkin painting, pony rides, a moon bouncer and slide, balloons, and several children’s games were among the Fair’s highlights.
New this year was the “Root-Beer Garden” with music by the band “Generations.” Snacks included pop corn, hot giant pretzels, and cotton candy. The kitchen crew provided bagels, hot dogs, hamburgers, chili and all that goes with them.
Through the generosity of parishioners and local businesses forty-one theme baskets were provided for the Chinese auction. Baskets included an “assortment of lottery tickets,” a “Tailgate” basket, a “Hanna Montana” basket, a “Breakfast in Bed” basket and a “Night with Nelson DeMille” basket, which included an autograph copy of his latest book he donated to the Fair. There were also drawings for a flat-screen television and an outdoor gas barbeque and also a 50/50 drawing.
The chairpersons and the Vestry wish to thank all of the Church volunteers and the parents of the Grace Day School who worked all year and at the event to make the Fair such a huge success. In addition, we all appreciate the support of the members of the greater Massapequa community who brought their spouses and friends, and children and grandchildren to the Fair. And we cannot forget the many businesses and companies that donated to the event.
See you all next year for the Sixth Annual Harvest Fair on Saturday, September 25, 2010.
