My Sabbatical Journey

A Message from The Rev. Dr. Walter V. Hillebrand

- My Sabbatical Journey

My beloved Sisters and Brothers in Christ,

The Lord be with you!

I just began my sabbatical journey and I can say that I miss you already.  Disconnecting from the daily routines that we have established in our lives is not an easy task.  Just think about it.  If you, from one day to the other,  would have to give up eating bread or for some of you drinking coffee.  How would that impact your life?  For me, as a workaholic,  it isn’t easy to stay away from my office, church and school work.  And even more so, it isn’t easy to have to stay away from my faith community that I dearly love.  Needless to say, I am struggling.

And it might just be that one needs to struggle about not being in the driver's seat so to speak and that is one reason why it is required to go on sabbaticals and re-discover life from another perspective.  A perspective that will open one’s eyes that might have been forced into a narrow way of understanding life. Thus, it is essential to re-welcome and accept new things into our lives.  And as you all know, when we are pushed out of our comfort zone, when we are challenged and stretched in our ways of thinking and living life, it is in these moments when some pain is present.  However, it also is in these moments when opportunities arise and real change and growth can take place.

I will try to keep you informed about my progress as this spiritual journey begins.

I ask you to pray for me as I will daily pray for you.

God’s love and peace,

W. Hillebrand +
