New Year 2026 - Blessing of your Home

Dear Parish Family,

It is a long Christian tradition to bless homes as we enter a New Year.  The tradition is linked to the Israelites marking their doorposts to be saved from death, hence, the passover.  Christians all over the world invite the Priest into their homes during the season of Epiphany to bless their homes, keep the family safe in the new year, and make their homes a welcoming, God-fearing space.  

This is an opportunity for all families with children.  As I am invited into your home, I will also be able to bless your child, their room, their preferred toy, and ask God for protection. 

The Blessing of a Home includes the markings on the doorpost with chalk as follows: the year, separated by four crosses, and the first letters of the names of the Three Wise Men (20 + C + M + B + 26).  

The Blessing of our Home is life-giving, renewing the spirit, and, for us today, symbolizes that we are a welcoming Christian home.  Also, the sign is a potent symbol that will keep evil away from our house, just as in ancient times during the Passover.
